Shaw Hardwood Profile

Established in 1946 as Star Dye Company, Shaw Hardwood has advanced to the top of the field in hardwood flooring. Because of their high volume and excellent products, they are the leader in providing excellent flooring products at a reasonable price

Shaw’s top products include both solid and engineered hardwood flooring. They offer a wide array of beautiful woods including Birch, Oak, Maple, and Hickory. This type of flooring provides both beauty and warmth to a home or office.

When choosing one of the above woods, there is also the choice of choosing solid or engineered hardwood flooring. To select the best type for your particular situation, it is important to know the difference between the two.

Solid Hardwood Flooring

Shaw solid hardwood flooring is just that, solid wood made from a piece of hardwood approximately 3/4 inch thick. It can be stapled, glued or nailed to a wooden sub-floor. The thickness makes it possible to be sanded or refinished for many years.

It is essential that this type flooring not be put on a location where a great deal of moisture is present. This is because hardwood has a natural tendency to expand and contract with changes in temperature. This type flooring is best installed by professionals who will allow spaces for expansion that are not be visual to the naked eye.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring

Shaw engineered hardwood flooring is made with a core of plywood or other wood with a top surface of layered hardwood veneer. This type of hardwood flooring can be installed on any surface, even concrete, as it is less likely to expand or contract with changes in temperatures or humidity.

Shaw’s EPIC line took engineered hardwood to a new level upon its introduction in 2006, and again with the EPIC Plus line in 2015. Powered by Stabiltek technology, EPIC Plus is the new leader in durable and environmentally friendly hardwood.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

One of the more popular types of flooring available from Shaw is their line of Shaw luxury vinyl tile (or LVT for short), a versatile, durable alternative to traditional hardwood flooring.  LVT not only offers the same aesthetic benefits of hardwood, it’s also much easier to install, almost completely water/stain resistant, and  can be used in virtually any room of your home!

Carpet Tile

But Shaw isn’t just about hardwood or hardwood-esque floors.  Shaw carpet tiles are available if you prefer something a little softer underfoot. And with Shaw’s LifeGuard technology, you can rest assured that y our carpets will stand up to whatever you can throw at them!

Cost

The cost of solid hardwood flooring is dependent on the species and quality of the wood. With certain solid hardwoods the cost can sometimes be less than with engineered flooring.

The cost of engineered hardwood flooring can vary greatly. There can be as many as 12 layers of wood involved in the finished product. Therefore, this, in addition to the species of the cover wood, can cause a wide variety in prices.

But whatever type of hardwood you decide on, you can always rest assured that you’ll get the best prices at GoHardwood, where we buy wholesale from Shaw and pass on the savings to our customers!
